THE CHALLENGE

What is 60K for Kids with Cancer?

add remove

60K for Kids with Cancer is a month-long fitness challenge taking place this October. You can choose to walk, run, or roll throughout the month to complete 60K to close the 60% cancer gap and save kids' lives.

Raise funds for World Child Cancer, to fund lifesaving treatment and care to kids with cancer around the world. Register now.

Why 60K?

add remove

Most childhood cancers are curable. But access to treatments and care is not equal.

Kids diagnsed with cancer in low to middle-income countries only have a 20% survival rate... While in countries like the UK 80% of children survive their diagnosis.

The only difference is early access to effective treatment.

So, we're asking YOU to conquer 60k this October to close the 60% cancer gap.

What are the distance options?

add remove

The primary challenge is 60km to close the childhood cancer gap by 60%. That's 1km for every percentage point towards our goal.

However, if that challenge is not quite right for you, we encourage you to take on a challenge that suits you best.

When and where is 60K for Kids with Cancer?

add remove

60K for Kids with Cancer is a virtual fitness challenge which will take place from 1 October - 31 October.

You can take part anywhere! In your local area, parks, at the gym or anywhere that suits you.

THE CAUSE

Who are World Child Cancer?

add remove

World Child Cancer is one of the world's leading children's cancer charities working in low to middle-income countries.

Our Headquarters are in the UK, but all of our work is with children in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Latin America so you may not be familiar with our name.

We work with partner hospitals and health ministries in 13 countries around the world to speed up diagnosis, improve access to treatment, support families and advocate for policy changes to make childhood cancer treatment affordable and sustainable for everyone.

We have been around since 2007 and are registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales (Charity number: 1084729). World Child Cancer (US) is a 501c3 non profit in the United States, and World Child Cancer (Netherlands) is a registered charity in the Netherlands.

Does World Child Cancer work in the UK?

add remove

All of our work is about levelling the playing field for children in low to middle-income countries. While there are always improvements to be made for children's cancer treatment in the UK, the survival gap between the UK and many other countries is huge so we're working to close the gap. One child, one hospital, one country at a time.

FUNDRAISING

How do I fundraise?

add remove

When you register you will create a bespoke fundraising page that is unique to you. You will be able to set your own fundraising goal, your own distance goal, upload pictures and tell people why you're taking part.

You can keep people informed of your progress with the automatic donations totaliser, logging your kilometres, and lighting up your achievement badges.

On the page there will be buttons to share your page with friends, family colleagues through social media and email. It's super easy to do, and years of evidence shows that sharing your page is the best way to hit your fundraising target. It works!

What if I'm nervous about asking people to donate?

add remove
Firstly, you wouldn't be the first person! But the easiest way to get over this is simple:
  1. Make a donation to yourself when you start. This shows people you're committed to your challenge and that you're putting your own money in too.
  2. Take the plunge! It's easy to share your personal page using the buttons on your dashboard. You'll be surprised about how many people are happy to donate.
  3. Re-share. Don't stop there. Lots of peope don't donate first time you share, so keep going. A simple message like this can help:
"Huge thanks to everyone who has donated. I've raised £XXX so far but still need to get to my target of £XXX, so please help if you can. Every donation welcome, large or small."

You can also use the personalised link on your page to share on WhatsApp, email or wherever you like. As you see your donation totaliser climb you'll feel great about what you're achieving!

What do I do if I've hit my target?

add remove

This is an easy one... keep going!

People love to celebrate and be part of success, so tell people you've done it and that you're going to push to do more.

You can adjust your target in your dashboard.

How do I add offline donations?

add remove

If someone gives you cash or a cheque, just log into your dashboard, hit My Donations, and then Add Offline Donation.

Follow the instructions, putting in the name of the donor and any message they want you to add. It won't appear on your page until you've actually paid it, so there are payment options below.

Once you've made the payment their name and message will appear on your page.

We do encourage everyone who registers to make a self-donation as it helps get you started.

Why make a self-donation?

Donating to yourself is a great way to get yourself off £0, and show your potential sponsors that you're committed too.

Also everyone who receives a donation on their fundraising page will receive an exclusive 60K for Kids with Cancer t-shirt 😎

GENERAL

How do I log my kilometres?

add remove

There are two ways to do it. You can either link your fitness tracker to your page so it uploads manually (Fitbit, Strava, MapMyFitness and Garmin), or you can just add them manually in your dashboard after your run or walk.

To set up the link to your fitness tracker just log into your dashboard and click on Dashboard, then Log my KMs, and click on the relevant fitness tracker icon. Then just follow the instructions and you're good to go!

To log them manually, just log in to your account, click Log my KMs, and then fill in the boxes and hit Save Changes.

Why did my kilometres reset to zero on October 1st?

add remove

While it's definitely good to get out there and start running or walking before (and is good to tell people about for your fundraising!), the challenge is 60K in October because its Childhood Cancer Awareness Month so your challenge officially starts on October 1st.

We reset everybody's KMs at midnight on 1st October so you get to start the challenge together 😎

How do I edit my page?

add remove

Logging in to your account is the way to make any changes. You can edit photos, texts, add KMs, donations, share your page, copy the page link, update your distance target or fundraising goal.

Your dashboard has lots of this, but if you want to change photos or any text, just use the dropdown under your name at the far top right of your page after you've logged in, and click 'Edit My Page'.

I've made a mistake in a donation, how do I get a refund?

add remove

If a donation has been made in error we're happy to refund it. Just contact us using the details at the bottom of the screen, or just email us at fundraise@worldchildcancer.org with the details and we can help.

Why are some of my achievement badges not lighting up?

add remove

The badges on your dashboard should light up automatically when they are triggered by an action or a milestone. If you are sure you've done/achieved what is needed and that hasn't happened, plese drop us a line at fundraise@worldchildcancer.org and we'll look into it for you.

No child should suffer. Let's close the cancer gap.
